IN HONOR OF HEART HEALTH MONTH:

Dr. Jorge Gonzalez Gomez spoke of Heart Health at the Perth Amboy Jankowski Senior Center on February 8, 2017.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States yet it is also one of the most preventable. Eating wisely, knowing your family health history and early identification of risk factors for heart disease together with regular check-ups and working with your physician to manage your health are all integral aspects of saving lives from this often silent killer.

Discussion of various forms of heart disease such as arrhythmias, coronary artery disease and atherosclerosis were discussed. Attendees asked many questions and corresponding answers were provided. Seniors also asked questions about the daily use of an aspirin, vitamins such as CoQ 10, and various other medications.

The best tool we can give our residents is education. Alameda Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare offers monthly health education seminars to the Senior Citizens. The sessions are conducted in English and Spanish. Next seminar will take place on March 08, 2017 at 11:00 PM and the subject will be “The Pharmacy in your Home.”
